Car stereo works but has no sound?

Electrical car stereo sound questions?

  • ok, will your additional car stereo amp you install work with less power if you throw a 10 volt fuse in it vs. the 15 volt fuse thats supposed to go in it? Or should it just possibly not work at all? but it does come on and work.. I'm wondering if that effects how loud it can get. Also I own a 15" and a 12" sub, should I throw them both in the car? Could they sound cool, or would that sound awful? Is that why people always go with the 2- 12's or 2-15's, ect. thanks. I know I should just go get the correct fuse, but I'm wondering how it works... thanks

    Fuses are rated for amps, not volts; and they don't limit the power unless they're blown. In other words, there won't be any difference in performance with a lower fuse rating until your system draws enough current to blow the fuse. Until then it works just as well as a larger fuse. There's no reason you can't go with different subwoofer sizes, but it's hard to predict how it will sound. People generally use two or more of the same subwoofer model because it simplifies enclosure-building and amp hookup, and because if you have two of the same subwoofer you can be certain one won't sound much louder or softer than the other when both are connected to the same amp.

First let me say its not voltage that your fuse is rated at its amps. Your electrical equipment in your car is always 12 volts. Second if you put a 10 amp fuse into equipment that requires a 15 amp fuse you will have to replace it sooner because it will heat up faster & burn out the fuse. Finally use the correct rating of fuse.

You should use the same size fuse, anything smaller won't handle the current draw. It'll eventually blow. I'd keep the woofers the same size. The larger 15 inch may overpower and cancel out the 12 inch woofer.

fuse ratings are there to protect your amp from blowing up not the power or the sound if your amp comes with a 15 amp fuse you need to install a 15 amp fuse putting a smaller or larger fuse will in the long run fry your amp and as far as speakers if you can get away with just one 15" sub it will sound better then that and a 12 why 15s hit deeper then 12s and with deep bass the 12s will fall out and make it sound like crap

use a fuse of the correct amperage rating it doesn,t use more or less power it only blows if the power draw is more than what it should be as far as your woofers you would be better to run two of the same size for a few reasons one of them would max out before the other one subs require different box volumes for each size the operating frequencies are different

As already stated.... its amps not volts but anyway. The 10 amp will work, but once the amp tries to reach full power it will pop. After it blows put a 15 back in. Running 2 different size subwoofers in a car is never a good idea because they will cancel each other's waves. Either go with the 12 or the 15. Good Luck

yep, everyone is correct. The only time i would recomment going with different size subs if you do something like i did. I have 4 15's in the bed of my truck. I also added 4 8" subs for better mid response, one in each door of the truck. This allows the deep notes to hit real hard from the 15's. I have the 8's set up to block out the real low tones allowing for better mids. My components fill everything in.
