How to install an equalizer in the car?

  • what is the most simple way to install an eq in my car, and how do you do it. I would just like a quick run through of some steps to install one, including how to hook up the wires etc... i have an aftermarket headunit with a 4 channel amp running to my door speakers and another amp for my two subs, if that means anything

    Equalizers basically hook up like.... power ground there may be a remote wire, but not last time i used an EQ from there you will have several sets of colored wires , the color matches ( blue/blue white , green/green black and so on) are what you tie into the speaker wires.

do you have instructions, if no you may be able to find a manual online via google. is this an under dash eq or one that is mounted in the trunk? this is important for installition instructions. scott is right power, ground, and most likely a turn on wire.

Location of where to mount it depends on you and what you're installing the EQ into. As mentioned, there will be a ground and one or two powers (constant and trigger). I'm guessing you have a "pre-amp EQ" meaning that it provides no "power" to run speakers. It will have its own power(s) and ground and the rest will be RCA ports. If you are running RCA's to your amps, then you'll need two more sets of RCA's.... so you will have two pairs going from the head unit to the EQ, and one pair going to each amp. (some EQ's may only have one pair of RCA inputs though...) The RCA ports on the EQ should be labeled so plug in to the appropriate ports ("input" coming from the radio, and different ouputs such as "front", "rear", sometimes "subs"). good luck
