Question about car speakers?

Question about my old car speakers?

  • my front speakers in my 93 chevy lumina car are shot (neither of them work) The rear one's still work. Before I go buy new speakers for the front (probably hard to find, odd size) is there a way I can remove one of the rear speakers and see if it will work in the front? The front speakers are in the dash (right below the front windshield) should be fun to remove. Basically I want to make sure it's the speakers that are blown and not a wire or something

  • Answer:

You have 3 1/2 inch speakers in the front, that are 19 years old.. and paper, have been in the sun, under thin grill covers.. Their probably shot, but you can pull one and test the speaker its self.. If you have a multimeter, you can meter it for ohms.. If not, go old school.. Grab, a 9V battery, and 2 small pieces of wire.. connect each bit of wire, to the speaker, and hold one on either battery terminal. "Pop" the speaker, by touching the other wire to the other terminal.. No, you won't get shocked.. ( unless you lick the battery afterwards :D) If they are fine, it's time to replace your 19 year old radio :) Good luck!!
