The best truck radio?

What is name of wiring pigtail(?) adapting truck steering wheel radio controls to operate aftermarket radio ?

  • I have been told there is a small wiring harness, or pigtail, to connect the original steering wheel mounted radio controls-volume and station select-to operate an aftermarket radio in my truck. Does anyone know what it is called so I can buy one? It would also be nice to know where to buy one. I don't know if it makes any difference, but the truck is a 2000 Dodge Dakota R/T and the radio is a Pioneer DEH-P550MP. Any info would be appreciated.

  • Answer:

Not really a pigtail; you need a steering wheel control adapter module to translate the code on the factory wires to something that can be used by the Pioneer deck. A couple different manufacturers make these. Look for a Metra ASWC or a PAC SWI-PS. Once you've purchased it, go to the manufacturer's web site to download specific instructions for your truck.
