Unlock code for my car stereo please HELP!!?

  • so my husband got a car out of the auction and since it was a little crashed he took it for maintenance and stuff at a body shop they took out the car battery and now the car stereo is on lock mode and there's a flashing light that says "security" the car is a 99 cadillac catera and i called a cadillac dealer and they said they can unlock the stereo with a code but its $120!!!! does anyone know a alternative???? does anyone HAPPEN to know the code for this!! please please please help. i've been searching the internet and i found nothing!!! THANK YOU!

  • Answer:

We will not know the code. The code is not universal, meaning there isn't one code for all the cadillac cateras. Each one has a different code. I obviously suspect that the car did not come with the original owner's manual, which may contain such information. Also, I hope you have the best of luck with that car, but Cadillac Cateras are one of the worst cars ever made. in those years, cadillac wanted to use a V6 engine but get the power of a V8 so they went to the Germans for help. The end result was an extremely unreliable car with very costly repairs. It even has a timing belt, which if breaks, will ruin the whole engine. So be sure to check up on that as well as it may need replacement. I hope it is not a 1997 model. Those were the worst. There is your first repair bill---$120 for a radio code, though I would buy a new pioneer CD player from walmart for less than $100 and install it myself and do away with the code!

Look in paperwork that came with car if any first. You may find a "code" card or it written in the owners manual. Otherwise you have ot give the dealer the VIN or maybe pull the radio to get some info off of it to get the code. IF you are in good with a particular repair shop you can usually get them to call the parts dep't at the local dealer with the VIN and the dealer will usually tell them. You never buy anything there they won't help you!!!

There is no single code. Each radio has a different code. The only way to get the code is from the dealer or from the previous owner. Sometimes they put a card in the owner's manual with the code on it. You might be able to talk to the manager of the dealership and talk them into giving you the code. They will sometimes do that.
