If I hooked up 2 amps would I need to buy a separate battery?

I have 3 amps in my car how do I hook up another battery ???

  • I also have a 3 farad Cap, and my alternator is semi new about 3 months now. I have everything hooked up but my night driving lights still die down when the bass note hits, my interior dash lights & just about anything that has lights go way dim, even my amps power light dim down !!! I know is because the amps are sucking alot of Voltage and the cap is not enough, I have 4 12" Kicker Comps VR (2 for each amp) and 4 door componets powerd by the third amp. I have 2 Kicker 800.2 amps and a Rockford Fosgate 400.4 for the Midbass & highs. So I was told to install another battery but how do I connect it ((( in series or parrale ))) with they other battery or seperate from the main line ??? Please I need Help !!!

i did axactly what your trying to do and i really wouldnt reccomend it unless you have a custom alternator. I had my battery in my trunk and if you think about it all your doing is making your alternator work twice as hard, and all your really going to get from another battery is more time when your car isnt on to run your stereo...and its not that long. also, in order to do this safely, there is thing which i dont know the name of, but basically it prevents your extra battery from charging the normal battery at the same time as you alternator is, if you dont get this, you run the risk of blowing up your alternator. personally i dont think its worth it...i ripped mine out a couple weeks ago and now my car starts up fine. good luck with it!

all you need is another one of you monster cables, attach the new battery positive (red) to the old Positive Red and then earth the black of the new one to the car. or just hook a new battery in your boot straight from the allternator, exactly like the old one is and wham, there you have your own power suplly to your sound. bigger allternator is needed though. this is the best way though well worth it as both batterys have a longer life.
