Why won't my power antenna on my 1991 Acura Inegra work?

  • Thanks to the beauty of the internet, I found a sit that taught me how to install my old CD deck into my 1991 Acura Integra. Everything works great as far as CD's are concerned, but the radio is lacking. I didn't use the manufacturer's radio for long, so I'm not sure if it even works. I do know that there are no loose cords to be plugged in, so I'm wondering if I need another adapter of some sort. Some radio stations come in and my iTrip for my iPod works fine. It's the local stations that don't come in. Thanks for your help everybody!

    certain antenna motors operate on a positive power supply and certain operate on a negative power supply. most aftermarket radios operate the power antenna output on a positive. if that is the case then you will have to install what they call a relay so that the radio turns on the relay with the positive power supply and then in turn the relay when properly installed will send the correct negative power supply to the antenna. which one your integra is i am unsure but be careful i hate to see someones ride go down in a blaze of glory from a crossed wire.

There are probably a couple of issues to address. If you've installed an aftermarket CD deck and the antenna is not working (and you're sure of your connections), you might want to check that the power antenna lead from the aftermarket deck is supplying voltage to its respective connection when you turn on the radio. Check this with either a multimeter or computer safe test light. Another problem might be that the antenna motor has burnt out or the gears for the mast might be stripped out. Again, a quick check of this by supplying voltage to the power antenna wire (disconnected from the radio, of course) will tell you if this might be an issue.
