Who knows about GPS system?

What GPS system do you prefer?

  • i know nothing about GPS systems. I'm buying my boyfriend a portable GPS system for his truck. If anyone knows anything about them, which brand do you prefer? Its really between a Garmin, Magellan, or TomTom. I want to make sure he can update the streets on it for free too.

    I bought my brother a Navigon GPS system and he seems to like it. I'd be the first to say it's not as good as Garmin, Magellan or even TomTom but it does come with a FREE LIFETIME traffic updates for freeways and Zagat reviews for restaurants, hotels, etc. You can buy their top of the line model for under $200. Used to be like $500. But if he doesn't need live traffic updates, get him a Garmin or Magellan as they are the best of the best. Go to Fatwallet.com to find great deals on them.

When it comes to ease of use and good updates, Garmin is pretty good. Magellan would and TomTom are great little navi's too, but I find the Garmin usually is the most reliable and has the most features compared to its competitors, and its not all that expensive either. If your looking at Garmin, check out the Garmin Nuvi 780 or 260 models. If you check em out and don't really like it, check out the Magellan Maestro 4370, its been getting good reviews. Whatever you do, don't buy a clarion GPS! I bought one a while ago and it came preloaded with 2005 maps (in 2007) and there haven't been any updates for it.

I've used a TomTom and a Garmin and I LOVED the Garmin. The TomTom not so much. The images on the screen of the Garmin just seemed a LOT easier to follow and understand. Hope this helps!
