How do you get a stuck CD out of a car stereo?

  • I have a 2002 Sunfire with stock CD player and there has been a CD player stuck in there for some time. I didn't really care at first because I just listened to my i-pod, but my i-pod transmitter is broke now and I am so tired of the radio. I have read that some units have a small hole that you can stick a pin in to release the CD but my car does not have that. My dad says you have to take the whole dashboard apart but there has to be a much easier way to do it. How can I get this damn CD out!!!

  • Answer:

    If you take the main dashboard cover off (You may have to take the half under the steering wheel off first. Both should pull off, and the bottom half may have two bolts underneath near the pedals), then take the stereo out, and remove the front cover from the radio, you should either see a hole to poke, or be able to manually remove the disk. This is also a good opportunity to replace your stock GM radio, because their CD players ALWAYS mess up.

take the car sterio out, and then unattach everything then put it back together

You could always use hemostats ( kinda like flat tweezers we have here at the hospital) or plain tweezers with tape around the tips for friction. You should be able to grab it.

well, you have a few options. either you can take it apart and get the cd manually, or you can buy a new stereo and not worry about it happening again. i guess if none of those work, you can try a pair of needlenose pliers.... good luck

Anyway you want. Kidding Get a CD fisher. like a hook for CDs though I don't think they sell those anymore. Also pliers might work but you may damage the radio. A hammer would be hard to work around...hm... Try taking the radio out or ask your car provider.

u need some player console keys. All it is is two peices of flat metal that slide into the sides of the CD player releasing two clips. Then you pull out the cd player and look for some sort of way to release the CD. Or take your car to a car audio store and they will do it for you.. Some times for free.
