When Is The Liquor Expo In Baltimore?

Baltimore area crab cake question?

  • I was on an overnight layover from BWI back in 2003. A cab brought me to a hotel reccomended restraunt for dinner. I don't remeber the name of it, but it had the best crab cakes I ever had in my life. I will be traveling through that area again soon and would like to find that restraunt. From what I remeber, it was about 8-10 miles from BWI and was in a kind of a small shopping plaza or strip mall with an overhang around the front. There was a liquor store across the street and I had to wait about an hour in the parking lot just to get to the lounge it was so crowded. Does this sound familiar to any Baltimore natives?

  • Answer:

I think you are talking about G&M. It isn't too far from the airport (id say about 5 miles away) there is usually a wait there. http://www.gandmcrabcakes.com/

I think you went to G&M based on the description. I put a link to their web site below. The crab cakes are very good there. Phillips has seemed to not be as good as they used to when I have gone there lately. Gunnings is also good and in a strip mall very close to the airport, but your description does not sound right for there.

I'm thinking you might be talking about Gunning's: http://www.gunningsonline.com/index.html Or Angelina's: http://search.cityguide.aol.com/baltimore/restaurants/angelinas/v-102404822?squery=19%3Acityids+AND+45%3Avenuetypekey&skip=30&uquery=skip%3D30%26stid%3D%26tid%3D%26pid%3D%26vfid%3D%26vptid%3D%26 If it's Angelina's be prepared for the fact that they're under new management and the crab cake will not be the same as it was three or four years ago. It's really gone down :( Gunning's is still excellent, as is the G&M recommended by the other answerer.

A picture may be worth a thousand words. See if this jogs your memory. G&M has been rated #1 Baltimore Crabcakes on many sites. http://search.cityguide.aol.com/baltimore/restaurants/g-and-m-restaurant/v-102351274 From the Editors Located southwest of Baltimore city, G & M is a dive restaurant and bar that arguably offers the best crab cakes in the area. This assertion in public, however, will buy you a heated discussion from fans of Jimmy's or Timbuktu. This is why the line stretches out the door on weekends, and despite the enormous menu (of American, Italian and Greek items), is the top reason to eat at G & M. And thousands of fans can't be wrong; the crab cake (sandwich or platter) is by far the best thing on the menu. Look around -- nearly every plate has a crab cake. Watch out, hon, this is not your usual Maryland crab cake that is deep- fried, brown, small and loaded with filler. G & M's crab cakes are broiled, golden, huge (the size of a grown man's fist), and contain large chunks of lump backfin crabmeat with very little filler. -- Elayne Kochis

I don't eat seafood, but I've heard Phillips Seafood Restaurant is one of the best in Baltimore. There is one at Inner Harbor (there may be others). Their address & phone number is: Phllips Seafood -- Harbor Place Light St. Pavillion at Inner Harbor 301 Light St Baltimore, MD 21202 PHONE # (410) 685-6600 phillipsseafood.com Also do a search for Seafood Places in Baltimore. .
