Where can I find a no-catering Hall in New York?

Where do I find the serial number on a Milton Piano Company Parlor Grand Piano?

  • I have a parlor grand piano with the insignia "Milton Piano Company MFG's" on it, but I cannot find the serial number. Where could it be? All I know is my great grandma found it in a barn with a black finish and determined it was made in 1906 for a Broadway Music Hall in New York, it was there for a while before going to Las Vegas. Then, somehow, it got left in an old forgotten barn where my Great G'Ma found it.

  • Answer:

Finding a serial number on an older instrument can be tricky - in fact sometimes there simply is not one to be found. This should get you started - http://www.piercepianoatlas.com/findno.html - but also look underneath. It may be stamped onto the bottom of the soundboard, into a beam or the underbelly or even on the rim itself. Look carefully, use a strong flashlight, maybe use a cloth to wipe away dust, etc. Now to the purpose of the serial number. If you find it, we can determine the age for you, but not any sort of value which can only be accurately appraised with a physical inspection by a qualified piano technician. You can find one at http://ptg.org/findATechnician.php For the record, Milton Piano Co. was established in New York City in 1892 and we have serial numbers from years 1903-1957.
