Tips on teaching a young child Spanish?

A few questions for NY Child Care Providers...?

  • I am in the process of becoming a teacher's assistant for a family day care and I was given an assignment to interview a child care provider. I was unable to locate one that was open on the weekends in my area, so I figured I could try to ask online. If you are a child care provider, please help me by answering any of the following questions: 1. Why did you become a child care provider? 2. Are you happy with your decision? Please explain. 3. What do you consider the best qualities of a Teaching Assistant? 4. What methods do you use to develop and implement activities that not only support and promote the child development but also keep their interest? 5. How do you know when a child is making progress? 6. What role do you think you play in making the world a better place? 7. What tips can you give me about the best way to communicate with a parent about the progress or problems of a child? 8. Tell me about a difficult child you had to work with. What made it difficult? How did you adapt? What did you learn? Any help you can provide me with is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

  • Answer:

I was a day care provider but was never open on weekends. I doubt that you will find one anywhere. Some of your questions are going to solicit different answers from different people but as far as difficult children are concerned, each one has to be treated individually. I had a group of 3 boys (after schoolers) and had to break them up. We sat at a table doing crafts, etc and I put the ring leader next to me as my "helper". He was my best friend soon after that. You will know when a child is making progress by his reactions to the learning material. I always said I flunked my sanity hearing because I like two year olds and teens. Truth is: kids can be a lot of fun.
