I need help with my resume. Any employers that can help? Or anyone else?
-
This is crap. I desperately need help with my resume and with just getting work in general. For the last 2 months I have been browsing Eugenejobs, craigslist, Careerbuilder, Monster, and every local temp agency trying to find work. I apply at at least 5-10 jobs every day out of all those sites and most of them are just employers asking for my resume. I just got turned down for a cashier job at SUBWAY based on what is on my resume, so I need help. I know it's informal, but post your email address and I'll send you my resume and you can give me some tips afterwards. I'm mostly looking for help from employers, but I'll take anything right now. Thanks guys

Honestly, your story is classic for most people looking for a job and your not alone. My 20 year old son just starting looking for new a part-time job and the pickings are slim. An excellent piece of advice I gave that worked for him last night (he now has an interview in 2 days)... if you know someone is hiring (and you've already applied), follow up by calling, or going in and speaking with the manager. Let them know how interested you really are. Most hand in a resume or apply on-line and sit and wait. With respect to your resume, you need it to be professional no matter your level of experience. After all someone will be paying you money to help run their business, especially a cashier who handles the money. If you want a resume that gets noticed and to the top of the pile, then you need to think bigger! Way beyond words on paper. While having a well written resume is very important how your resume LOOKS is even more important! Your resume is a marketing tool, not just bullet points of skills and accomplishments on an 8-1/2" x 11" sheet. Most think the purpose of their resume is to get them a job. But the truth is, the purpose of a resume is to get you an interview. So what you need to do is make your resume fantastic... like you! Make it unique. Create a resume that stands out. I've made resumes that have not only been shown to everyone in an office but have also been displayed. You can too, easily. Did you know that on average, only 1 out of every 200 resumes received by a hiring company is granted an interview? That's pretty discouraging. And unfortunately, the companies hiring can be selective as they have many people to choose from. You have to make you/your resume something that sells you much better than it currently is. I could go on and on, but instead I'll point you to my website below that has great tips and the key to having your resume skyrocket over the rest! Best of luck with your search, Annette :)
