How long will does a USPS or a Postal Service package take to arrive from California to Illinois?

How long would it take for USPS to deliver a package from California to Illinois via USPS Parcel? Do they deliver at night too or weekends? It's a very important package so I'm worried about it. It was supposedly sent off Monday and it's Friday now. They didn't give me a tracking number or anything to check on my package. Next time I'll do that though.
