• If you know about the White House Scam where you go to a store and buy a product. You then have your friend go into the same store and finds the same product and place it somewhere for you to find. You then return to the store and pick up the products where your friend placed them. You then go to the cashier register and ask for a refund. You ask for the refund on the products that your friend placed, not the ones you bought earlier. Now the thing I am wondering is when you go to return the product for the refund, they person uses the laser to scan the products code. Since you are trying to scam them by return the products that your friend placed, will it appear on the computer that the product has not been bought yet? Or does it just work cause the codes are all the same for the same product?

  It depends on the store and product. Every chain/business has different ways of assigning product codes. On some products it may work, however the problem is that generally customer service is right by the entrance, and they'll see you go in with nothing and then come up to the desk with objects to return. Most big-box stores do expect people to try this though and have you fill out personal information with the return. When they realize their inventory is off, they'll be able to pinpoint down to at most a few returns where it must have occurred (depending on the size of store and the product, perhaps just one). Even if you don't fill out personal information, they can get it from the credit card company. The only thing with this is (and I'm by no means promoting it- it's a stupid thing to do that's bound to end in big trouble) that I don't understand the point of your friend hiding the product. Why wouldn't you just pull it off the shelf when you go? Why would it have to be hidden?
