Can I get into Temple University?

Can I get into University of Illinois-Urbana Champagn, Ohio State, or Temple?

  • I just finished up sophomore year in high school. Freshman year I had like a 2.9-3.0 GPA. Sophomore year I had like a 3.2 GPA. So there is an increase. I am involved in my church youth group, and I caddy in the summer. I also am in a few clubs in school (Games Club, Key Club, Junior State Assosiation), it's like a debate club. I am also in Jazz Band, and Pit Band in school. I also fence for the high school. I also will be a junior 4h instructor (if that helps at all). I will also be in two AP classes next year. They're Psychology and US History 2. I haven't taken the SAT yet. I would also like to know what is the minimum SAT/ACT score to get accepted into these three colleges. Lastly, if I end my high school career with a 3.2 GPA, what is my chance of getting into each of these three. I am out of state for all of them by the way.

  • Answer:

University of Illinois--Urbana-Champaign is a huge reach and I think it is pretty unlikely that you will be accepted there with that low of a GPA, and with you being out of state, that will hurt a lot because 92% of their student population are composed of in state students. If you get a 30+ on your ACT, you could have a better chance and make up for the low GPA. Ohio State University is a little more reasonable for you to get into. The accept more out of state students than Illinois and their ACT range is a little lower at 25-30. I would say you have a decent chance there. I think you could definitely get into Temple University. Their ACT range is a 20-26, and your GPA is just about right for that school. It still is a pretty good school too! Good luck!

The one that would even slightly concern me is Ohio State. Do you know much about Temple? It is not exactly in the best area of the city. I would research that one carefully.
