What jobs are available in Blythe,CA?

I want to apply at a particular center, but I don't know what jobs are available?

  • Would it be weird to make a cover letter and resume and go there to fill out an application, not knowing what position is available? I just graduated from college and I'm looking for a starting position at this particular facility that helps community, and people with mental illness. I just graduated from college and thought it would a good fit for me and already did a day of job shadowing at this place, but didn't get information on what jobs available, she just said to "apply for what you are interested in". Any advice??? I feel a bit lost here.

  • Answer:

I would try to make an appointment with the person you shadowed and tell her pretty much what you've said here. You think the work they do is interesting and important. You would like to be part of it and you think it is a good fit with your education. But you don't know what jobs you might be qualified for, since you don't yet have any experience. Does she know of any jobs for which the center hires new college graduates. If she says no, ask if she would set up another appointment with someone who might know more about the hiring qualifications. It is a little tricky to navigate this process, but you need to be firm without being pushy. You need to ask people for their help, but if you do it in a way that asks for information rather than asking for a job, you will get a much better response. (There is actually a name for this process. It's called "informational interviewing.") So, keep it at the level of what KINDS of jobs you could plausibly apply for, rather than would-you-please-help-me-get-hired, even though everyone knows that's what you really want. BTW, the chances are that the person you shadowed didn't tell you what jobs are available because she doesn't know. Most people only know what jobs are available in their own office, and sometimes they don't even know that much. That's another reason to ask people to think about what you might be able to do. Good luck, and I hope this is helpful.
