Is the American Mall Model Search a scam? It is in Parkdale mall in Beaumont Texas.?

  • My sister and cousin went and signed up. They called them for an audition and they went. My cousin had her dad with her and she made it. They made her pay $50 and on Tuesday they want $100 more. My sister didnt get it because she didnt have a guardian with her! Is it legit for them to ask you to pay money they said it was for a portfolio. They gave her a bag full of stuff and there is a website on the side WWW. AMERICANMALLMODELSEARCH.COM but i cant find it online.

    Why would you pay for a model search? The worlds biggest searches - Ford Supermodel of the World and Elite Model Look are free to enter. The annual model searches conducted by Roxy, Delias, Seventeen Magazine, Cover Girl, Torrid, Steve Madden, Hawaiian Tropic, etc are free to enter. Any legitimate search would be able to get corporate sponsors like DKNY, Juicy, Glamour Magazine, Ugg, Redken, Maybelline, etc to cover the expenses. Why should you pay for a model search when there may be hundreds of people entering but only 1 will win? You are paying money for nothing if you are not the tallest, thinnest, prettiest person in the competition who will win. And if you were the tallest, thinnest and prettiest, you wouldn't need a model competition - you could go to any modeling agency open call on your own and they'd sign you without asking you for any money. I don't know that specific search but in general model searches that charge are not legit. Everyone who enters gets accepted. The reason it looks like fewer people made it to the next round is because each round you have fewer people who are willing to pay. In general, these competitions ask for more money for each round, then they ask you to pay for portfolios - which is a complete joke as you don't need a portfolio until AFTER you get signed by an agency. Why would you pay for a portfolio before you even know if you won the competiton and were getting a contract? It's a complete waste of money.

yea hun i did the same thing itz a complete scam i regret it. the best thing to do iz look up these companiez before u spend any money and know wat ur doin. also read the book b4 u think about doin it

I am in it myself but in TN. You have to go to Modelproductions. American Mall Model Search is kind of like a subgroup of it. I just did my photoshoot today. It is for a portfolio. Trust me, It is ligit. I have called all 3 numbers for the companies and even asked them the same question because my family as well was skeptical.... but just letting you know.... it is a heck of a lot cheaper than Glamour Shots.
