Does YMCA offer financial assistance?

What hospitals offer financial assistance for surgery ?

  • I am low income and do not have health insurance, and I am wondering what hospitals offer financial assistance for surgery in the Boston, MA area? The surgery I need is about $10,000 and I know I cannot afford that, and I'm not even sure if a hospital would operate if it wasn't life threatening? I've just never been without insurance, so this is a brand new thing to me...

  • Answer:

Mass General Hospital (MGH) in Boston offers "Free Care" to low-income patients. You would have to contact the Physician Referral line: 617-726-5800. Let them know what kind of docter/treatment you are looking for. Make sure you ask for a Physician that will take "Free Care." You'll have to make sure that you will only get billed by the hospital for a "clinic" visit. Otherwise, "Free Care" does not cover the Physician & Radiologists fees. Initially you will have to call the Registation line to become an MGH patient. The # is: 866-211-6588. Then you'll have to apply for "Free Care" through Financial Services. Call the main # for the hospital at: 617-726-2000.
