Do buyers on Paypal ever win appeal?

Desparately need help & opinions about an ebay transaction; any buyers & sellers out there care to comment?

  • I am a Buyer, have NEVER had a problem prior to this incident. No I have not bought a KaZillion things, but I have made substantial purchases over the last 5 years. I have even went to far as to attend eBay university and am very much aware of BUYERS & SELLERS guidelines. Heres what happened::: I recently placed a bid on an item tht I was purchasing for a family member. There was already 1 bid on the item & I raised the bid by $1.00. I later emailed the SELLER a couple of questions about the item including if the SELLER had others in larger sizes. The SELLER never answered my questions. Nothing in my spam folder nothing in "my Ebay" folder on ebay. Long story short, 16 hours prior to the closing of the auction, I emailed the SELLER & asked that my bid be withdrawn AFTER I first contacted eBay who told me to do this. The SELLER did not respond until there were only 4 hours left in the auction & emailed me saying I had to go through ebay. AGAIN I contacted ebay who told me to tell the SELLER that yes he could mutually withdraw the bid. With 2 hours left in the auciton the SELLER contacted me & said "Let's wait & see if you win." ...& if I did then I'd have to pay a 20% cancellation fee. AGAIN I contacted ebay who said no I didn't & that I needed to ask & explain again to the SELLER that the bid could be mutually withdrawn. I emailed the SELLER again, I asked kindly that my bid be withdrawn, that this item was not going to be large enough. The SELLER never responded, the auction ended & I received an auto generted ebay announcement & an automated payment instructions from the SELLER. I contacted LIVE HELP on ebay & was told "Not to worry" that I could report this SELLER to ebay Trust & Security, that the SELLER could not charge me this fee. I reported the incident to eBay & received a reply from them today telling me that I am NOT obligated to bay this "cancellation" fee the SELLER is trying to impose on me, however, they have asked me to try to contact the SELLER to calcel the transaction. I have spoken to 1 SELLER who I have bought from in the past & they have advised me to stick with it. They told me my first mistake was NOT looking at the SELLER's feedback to start with: 160+ Negatives in the past 12 months & countless neutral ones. In short I was told it should never have happened and that the SELLER is not being on the up & up. I need some feedback here, any suggestions please.

  • Answer:

Just stick by what ebay is telling you. You gave the guy plenty of chances to withdrawal your bid, you asked him several times. If he refused then thats on him. You do not have to pay him a dime. At the most all he can do is complain to ebay about you. Maybe leave you a negative feedback. Its really no bid deal. Once again do not let him try to pressure you into paying anything. He cant. Dont send him a penny.
