What does POP3 server mean?

What is incoming/outgoing mail server?

  • I was on a website and there was someones email that you could click. So I did and this window came up to email this person. Before It can send it wants to know my incoming and outgoing mail server. What does that mean? I can choose POP3, IMAP and HTTP. wtf does that stuff even mean?

  • Answer:

It means that you don't have an email client set up on the machine, so Windows is prompting you to set up Outlook and associate that with email links. It wants to know the inbound/outbound mail servers maintained by your ISP so the client software can route the email. If you Google your ISP name + mail server you'll find instructions, if you want to set to set up Outlook or some other email client. Or if you want to skip all that you can right click the email links and get the addy from properties to paste it into your browser-based webmail.
