How do I make Yahoo my default Email in Windows Vista?

Has anyone figured out how to make Yahoo Mail the default email client in Windows Vista yet?

  • For the person who keeps answering this question with the "go to this little 60K program from Yahoo...", that program does not work on Vista, and more importantly, in the version of IE 7 bundled with Vista which has different drop down menus in the Internet Options>Programs tab. I would like to get back to being able to click on an email and have it open Yahoo! Mail. Another thought....has anyone with Vista tried downloading IE7 optimized for Yahoo, from the Yahoo downloads? I thought about this but it doesn't list Vista as one of the supported operating systems, and I didn't want to mess up my system by being experimental.

  • Answer:

    1. Turn off UAC 2. Download & install latest Yahoo Messenger 3. Click on "Yahoo Mail" icon on desktop. 4. Answer yes to Yahoo as default 5. (Optional) Turn UAC back on
