How Can I add yahoo Messenger contacts into my Yahoo mail contacts?

How do I completely shut off Yahoo Messenger from Yahoo Mail?

  • I'm a long time paid Yahoo Mail user and I use the Web2.0-ish UI to access Yahoo Mail. I was recently "lucky" enough to have the Yahoo Messenger integration switched on in my Yahoo Mail, except all of this luck is bad because every time I log into my Yahoo Mail I have like 20 new contact invites to dismiss, and they screw up the UI on my Yahoo Mail and generally slow things down, and dismissing them all is a PAIN! I see the option to only allow messages from my contacts in the options screen, but that isn't my problem, my problem is that I don't want to see people's requests for me to add them as a contact because I'm getting absolutely spammed with such requests! How do I shut Yahoo Messenger off completely in the mail UI? I don't use Yahoo Messenger and I have no desire to have it ruin my Yahoo Mail!

  • Answer:

    Try this: Go to Start, Run, and type in msconfig. Click on the Startup tab at the top, then run down the list of programs that are checked. If you see Yahoo Messenger there, uncheck it. Click on "Apply" at the bottom, then close the msconfig window. The next time you start up, the Messenger shouldn't be running.
