What is a good free email service to use and why?

Simple to use / learn email service?

My grandparents are heading to Australia for three months in October & want to get emailing to stay in touch with the family & so have bought themselves a laptop. My Granny has used a computer before, used to use hotmail quite happily but it has been a good few years since that. I want to find a nice simple, free email service to get her confident about using before they go. I am open to any and all suggestions, thanks in advance!

Personally I like Classic Yahoo Mail, don't fall fer the NEW it is horrible losts of problems, I use Internet Explorer and could not find a solution to switch back to Classic Mail permanently after 2 days of pulling my hair out... I went to CONTACT YAHOO CUSTOMER CARE, then clicked on LIVE CHAT, told them my old computer can not handle it, and they switched me back 5 to10 min., no problem! Good Luck!
