In new Yahoo Mail, how do I disable Yahoo Messenger?

  • In the new Yahoo Mail, under Options - Messenger Options - Privacy, I have 'Block all users not in my contact list' selected. I only have 5 people in my contacts list and to the best of my knowledge none of them use Messenger. Despite this, when viewing my Inbox, Yahoo Messenger pop-up boxes have recently started to reappear at the bottom of the screen and I do not recognise the Yahoo Messenger usernames. Could someone please explain how I can permanently prevent these Yahoo Messenger alert boxes from appearing? Many thanks!

    I was just told Options... like you said, he said it worked. Maybe it is just another new mail problem, here is my story, and all the yahoo contacts I know of all tested out and work. Maybe this can help you, I use Internet Explorer and could not find a solution to switch back to Classic Mail permanently after 2 days of pulling my hair out lots of problems! I have not found links work permanently, I went to CONTACT YAHOO CUSTOMER CARE, then clicked on LIVE CHAT, told them my old computer can not handle it, and they switched me back 5 to10 min. total, no problem, and they do not prompt me to switch anymore! You can also call Yahoo USA, but you will have a long wait! 1-866-562-7219 & 1-408-349-1572, and as always you can go to, (Help.yahoo.com). I had the same problem. Finally I chose the other option in privacy where you check the other box to 'block specific addresses.' Copy the address of the message sender and paste it in the box for blocking addresses. This worked for me. I no longer get the pop-up box from those user names.
