What really is wrong with my yahoo mail alert? It showed more mails than what I actually received.?

The last few days and ones I signed in to launch my yahoo messenger,I received my yahoo mail alerts which showed that I have received mails.As for example a few minutes ago ones I launched my yahoo messenger,I received mail alert which showed that I have five new mails in-box.Then when I opened my yahoo mail,there was only one new mail in-box.I have been having this problem with my mail alert for the past few days.Therefore it made me wonder what really is happening with my mail alert.I checked for spam mail but there was none.So what is going on with my mail?Can anyone help me to sort out this problem? Frankly speaking,I feel that it's kind of strange to find there was only three new mails in-box when the mail alert showed that there was fourteen new mails.This was what I experienced yesterday.

Errm thought you might have failed to check for the others in bulk mail folderbut apparently not. sorry have to pass just don't know maybe its them thar gremlins again!
