How can I know when someone opens my email?

How do I know when someone opens their email?

  • Answer:

You can't know this. There is no automatic return notification protocol for the opening/reading of an email. There are email clients that will allow you to request notification, but the user still must respond to that notification. If he/she refuses, you still won't know. Personally, I find return notification to be annoying... I hate to get a pop-up to interrupt my email reading. If you need guaranteed confirmation on communication, or if your communication is time critical, email is definitely *NOT* the way to go. For this, you'd have to either send a certified letter or pick up the phone.

many advanced e-mail programs such as outlook let you enable options where you can request delivery receipts and another feature where it asks the recipient to confirm it's read, which in turn sends you a notification. just as a note, hotmail and yahoo don't support the features mentioned above, it is only 'real' mail servers and clients like MS exchange that offer it. mostly for internal company use where it is safe to do so. delivery and opened reports can sometimes be used to trigger data about you to be sent to the person who sent it. hope it helped.

Yahoo! Mail has not had that luxury but on Outlook you go to 'Tools' menu >>click on 'Options'>> click 'Email Options' click 'Tracking Options'>> select 'Read Receipt'
