Why won't my computer let me open any e-mail attachments in Yahoo mail?
-
I think my computer is not agreeing with yahoo mail. I cannot open any kind of attachment in either of my 2 yahoo accounts, regardless if use IE or Firefox. However if I use my school e-mail or gmail, the attachments work on my computer. My yahoo accounts do open attachments on a different computer though, so that's why I think something must be wrong on MY computer with yahoo. When I click on the attachment, the dialog box comes up that says "download" but after I click that and the box goes away, nothing happens. This is driving me crazy, please help!!! Thanks!

Ok, I have a small business web page with Yahoo, so I called them, and they were very helpful. First, try deleting your cookies and browser history. If you've already done that (I had), let's look at your spyware/virus programs. I use Trend Anti-Virus from Best Buy. Under "settings" and "real-time" protection, there was a box marked "Threats in web mail attachments". I unchecked that box, and wala, my attachments opened just fine. Why they were opening in gmail and not Yahoo, I don't know... The other thing... apparently Yahoo recommends using Firefox vs. Explorer. Seems many folks calling with this issue have Internet Explorer 7 (IE7). Firefox is more secure than IE7, if you get a virus in IE7, it's attached to your Operating System, and it all gets infected. Firefox is separate from your Operating System, so only your browser if affected. (That's my understanding of what the Yahoo Expert told me)... Hope this helps!

Yahoo is still having some problems at the moment. Suggested cures range from Update Adobe Flash Player and Java script to clear IE7 cache, cookies, and browsing history. Different things seem to work for different people. It's causing attachments to not show, 999 errors where it won't let you do a particular action and some people cannot send receive delete or move mail. It's not just Vista either it's happening to some of us on XP. If all else fails go back to classic mail via this link. http://us.mg1.mail.yahoo.com/dc/optout?script=no click yes when asked do you want to opt out. Hope this helps.

This was happening to me last week, I could only open my attachments if I downloaded them. Couldn't view any pictures, Little white boxes with a red x. Even under my inbox, My Photos were those white boxes. Once I downloaded them and they would open to view, I would right click and on the drop down menu I click Send to, so I sent them to My Documents, then to My Pictures. It happened from 1 minute to the next, and I'm in the classic mail also. It lasted about a week then all of a sudden as fast as it happened, it went back to normal. I never made any changes in my settings or anything. Maddening. Never found the cause, but others on here were having the same thing happening to them.
