I have changed my photo avatar everywhere, but cannot get MAIL Messenger avatar to use photo....HELP PLEASE!!!?

Have changed my avatar to an uploaded photo in the downloaded version of "Messenger", "360" and "Answers", but cannot get the messenger in MAIL to use the same avatar. It uses the cartoon avatar. It is possible to change????
