How to convert full date/time to timestamp?

Why is my yahoo mail timestamp in Pacific Daylight Time when I live in NY?

I posted a question about how to find the timestamp on my yahoo mail and i got some ans and a direction to a site called timeanddate.com..i;m still kinda confused on how to change the numbers into my time in NY especially since now I found out that the timestamp says PDT which, thnx to the site, i found ot ment pacific daylight time..anyways to make a long story short..why does it say that when I am on the eastern coast? s there anyway to change that? if not how can I convert the time such as 22:39:14 -0700 (PDT) into eastern time? thnx soo much AM SOOO CONFUSEDDD

Because Sunnyvale, CA is where Yahoo! has their main offices. All time is West Coast time to them! .
