How do i make my picture show up where my avatar was on im...it is only showing a black picture now?

i got a web cam and took a picture to put up but no matter what i did -checked the box for share my picture and everything it took off my avatar but now it just shows a black picture.what can i do to make my photo show up there

Answer:
Open messenger and log off and back on. If it still does not appear do it again. Mine went right on but I uploaded thru 360*
