How do I set up an I.M. on Yahoo?

How to set up Yahoo IM alert on my PC desktop?

• I want to receive an alert on my desktop when a friend sends me an IM or message on Yahoo chat. New computer - don't know how to set it up.

• Answer:

  Open Messenger and click Messenger on the toolbar, scroll to Preferences and click, then scroll to Alerts & Sounds and click there. Put a check mark in the box "Enable Sounds", highlight I receive an Instant Message or SMS message (plus anything else you see there you want an alert for). Alert me by: Choose any one or all three of the ways to be alerted. The arrow you see before Browse is how you preview the sound you choose. Click Apply, then OK. At this point I'd also restart the computer just to be sure your changes "take". Good luck and don't be intimidated, take one step at a time and you'll get through it....
