  Police forces advise people NOT to set an automatic vacation response, especially one with specific dates - you never know who will get the information, and it's an open invitation to burglars. Instead, set a response in general terms, such as "Hold the jokes, my Inbox is swamped!" You can find the setting in Options > Mail or More Options. An autoresponder for e-mail sends a message back every time a message is received. This is great for when you're going to be out of the office or away for awhile on vacation, but there are some risks associated with doing this, too. When you have your e-mail program set to automatically respond to every message you get, you send back to everything, including SPAM! All a spammer needs to know is that your e-mail address is valid to open the floodgates for even more spam, and your autoresponse tells them that! (They'll probably sell your address to other spammers too.) Giving specific dates also opens any Fwds from open CC lists to give the information to people you do not know - how can you trust them all? Your house could be ready for burglars. The best method is to send e-mails to all affected, using BCC, of course. Let any regular newsletters and subscriptions pile up - they can be deleted quickly if there are not many e-mails from your friends as well. (You really can do without all those jokes in your Inbox, can't you?) A friend of mine regularly sends e-mails with their contact cell phone numbers for 'Urgent' messsages, just in case. In other words, be careful when using autoresponders, or better yet, avoid them altogether!
