How do you delete a avatar?

There is an avatar cartoon on my email page, how do I delete it? Is this free?

• the son of a relative sent me a thank you email and from then on I have the avator pictures and his name on the front page where I check my email. How can I delete it. It says go the avator home page, go to preference, and check delete. How do I go the avator home page???
