Can I seal up my mail letter box?

  • As I pay all my bills by Direct Debit and my bills are emailed to me can I legally seal up my mail box? Any online shopping I do gets delivered to my work. I just get junk mail through my door which piles up when I'm on holiday

    Yes of course you can, you're not required to have a mail access point at the front of your home. However it would be a dangerous thing to do as your mail could end up anywhere. Just because you do all your business online that does not mean you never need to receive mail. What happens when you need a new credit card or a passport upgrade, or driver's licence information sent to you? Or if a loved one tries to contact you if someone passes away etc...It really isn't a sensible thing to do. No more birthday cards from granny.

yes you can seal you mail slot in the door.. why not just hang toy a mail box with a trash bag attached . my postal Carrier will not deliver any mail with out a Name on it to by business address per my request .. so you may be able to request only 1st and 2 class mail be delivered.

It is your mail box so do as you like. The only thing is that one day their just could be an important letter that you do not get because of it so could cost you. But if you cover all of your bases then just seal it up.

Im not sure, but what about all the "Government" type stuff like voting forms, census etc? Im sure if any of that stuff got "returned to sender" for no reason you might get into trouble.
