CAN TWO PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME YAHOO EMAIL ADDRESS?

  • I have a Yahoo email address, eg. [email protected]. i terminated this account a while ago. I forgot that I had terminated this account. I used the email address in my Facebook account recently as another email address in the accounts setup on Facebook. Facebook alerted me saying that there is an account existing with the same email address. I used the email on facebook search and found that there was a person on Facebook with that email address. Is it possible for Two people to have the same email address on Yahoo. Sounds very wiered. How is that possible. I later went back to my terminated Yahoo account and reactivated it. it working fine..... Can some help me explain this Thanks el

  • Answer:

No. Email addresses, like IP addresses, must be unique since they identify one person, one machine, one location, in the midst of many. There can be no ambiguity. I was not aware that Yahoo recycled used addresses when someone cancels or terminates their account, but maybe they DO, in which case someone else took over your canceled account. Maybe. The thing is, since you reactivated your Yahoo account successfully, the problem now MUST be a typo on the other person's facebook account since the address YOU have with yahoo must be unique. The email address is your account NAME and each NAME in an index must be unique or data packets get "lost". The problem is what is stored in facebook's data, NOT with your yahoo email address.
