  Changing your email address means opening a new yahoo account with a clean slate. It will not contain any information from your previous account. Before closing your previous account, transfer you info from the old one to the new one. Especially your address book. I find it easier to print the address book and use the printed copy to enter addresses, but you have an option in your account to import it. Click on the "Addresses" tab at the top of your old account, and select "Options -> "Import/Export" and follow the prompts.
