How to change my email address?

How do I CHANGE the name I used to FORM my Yahoo Email address to a NEW name WITHOUT losing MY Email Address?

  • This is a fairly simple Yahoo type question as in " How do I change my password?" etc. and so on... In my case it is VERY important to me because I am disabled and forming a corporation I can operate (primarily) from home and as my health conditon(s) allow. First, I secured the name of the corporation I wanted to form online in the form of Yahoo email accounts/addresses.... NOW I have officially registered, filed and paid the fees for securing the name of my corporation. Along the way I learned from Bankers and small business advisers that I can LEGALLY use and assumed name provided I fill out the forms and pay the fees etc. which I intend to do ...Although I am disabled I am still able to write estimates and bids, collaborate with sole proprietors, train freelance and/or independent contractors to do the work, provide the services and maintain the standards I no longer have the physical stamina for ..... well I digress the bottom line here is that I intend to legally do business under an assumed name or fill out the forms, register and pay the fees to obtain a D/B/A license (or a Doing Business as license) This chosen name will be the name that I use when I go to the bank and set up a business account, get a debit card, buy checks and for that matter business cards etc. A.S.A.P. However I cannot do ANY of these things until I have the SAME "Doing Business As" NAME on my current Yahoo Email addresses! I CANNOT afford to set up a website. As such, these Yahoo Email address(es) are essential to my business! They will be my only online way to correspond with and build up a base of (potential) clients AND this is a SERVICE oriented corporation. WHEN I secured Yahoo email address(es) knowing that I would later secure or officially register as the name of my corporation...Well, naturally I used my own name...NOW that I have jumped through the hoops and paid the fees to officially registered and secured the name of my corporation, and NOW that I know how to officially file and/or register a "Doing Business As" name it is VITALLY important that I maintain these Yahoo Email addresses. However, NOW they need to be listed or appear online with my chosen "Doing Business As" name... But enough about my situations, circumstances and concerns.... I do NOT want to complicate a simple thing here...I am sure that there are any number of people who have their own reasons they want to hold on to their current Email address and change the name they used to FORM the address ... for example if someone has been Identified with an email address for several years and is recently divorced she would want to or even NEED to retain her email address BUT she wouldn't want her Ex-husbands last name popping up every time she was seen online... Others may have well established and current Email Addresses but don't want to be identified by a corny fraternity nickname that is 12 years out of date or undermines their credibility... There must be a way to keep your email address and change the name you used to create it! Thanks to any and all for their advice in this matter .....Can this be done? if not, are there alternatives that are just as good for someone in my position? TEN POINTS for the one who can lay it out for me in simple terms: step by step and get the thing DONE! Thanks in advance! Warm Regards, Jason (AKA D/B/A)

  • Answer:

I'm not your favorite 'helper' but -short and sweet - here's how to change the name showing 'From' on the same account. Open Options (Help in beta mail), then Mail or More Options, then Accounts. In the 'Your From name:' box on the right side partway down, fill in what you wish to show, then remember to go back to the top and Save Changes. For business use, you may prefer a separate account, or a Gmail account (seems more professional), and Yahoo recommends your alternate e-mail address for security and password recovery NOT be a Yahoo address: https://edit.yahoo.com/registration?.int%85 http://mail.google.com/mail/help/open.html OR for one combined account with two separate mailing account addresses: If you open an alternate ALIAS account you will not lose anything (contacts, address list, saved mails, folders.) If someone sends mail to the old e-mail address, it will go to the same Inbox so you don't lose any messages. There is a drop-down menu at the right in From: where you can choose which address to use. Use it just as you would your primary address (which of course you can still use). You can send and receive email from either address from the same Inbox. http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/edit/identity/id-06.html P.S. To find that original question again, either open the My Activity tab at the top of this page, or your profile. Click for My Questions, and the full list is there. Yes, you did remember her name correctly.
