USPS mailing question?

So I bought a game on eBay, and paid $65 with shipping and all. The seller did ship Tuesday. So when I use the delivery confirmation number I get this: Expected Delivery Date: March 8, 2011 Class: Package Services Service(s): Delivery Confirmation™ Status: Processed through Sort Facility Your item was processed through and left our MEMPHIS, TN 38136 facility on March 02, 2011 at 11:41 am. The item is currently in transit to the destination. Information, if available, is updated periodically throughout the day. Please check again later. Processed through Sort Facility, March 02, 2011, 11:41 am, MEMPHIS, TN 38136 Processed through Sort Facility, March 01, 2011, 8:17 pm, BATON ROUGE, LA 70826 Acceptance, March 01, 2011, 10:42 am, BATON ROUGE, LA 70808 So as you can see, my package left Louisiana on the 1st of march, and arrives at tennesse on the 2nd, then left the same day. Looks like the mail is moving, but my concern is that I live in New Mexico. Why did my package move up to tennesse? Why did it not just go across Texas to New Mexico? Is it normal for USPS to do this? In just wondering, I don't want the seller to try and scam me, by making shipping longer. But I guess the estimates delivery date is march 8, so maybe I'm just worrying to much? Anyways, if I see my package is somewhere else not close to New Mexico, then I will worry! But why does USPS do that?

Answer:
The USPS works in mysterious ways. In my town I can drop a letter off at my Post Office to another person in the same town and it goes to a town 35 miles away and then comes back to my town and is delivered to the recipient. They wonder why they loose money all the time...

Stop worrying. Mail goes to regional sorting centers where it is put on trucks to other regional sorting centers. It is on the way, but don't expect quick updates on the routing. USPS updates tend to come in bunches. Just FYI, if I mail a letter to my neighbor, it goes to a regional sorting facility 2 hours from here, is sorted and postmarked, then put on a truck back to my town. That's just how it works.

The USPS has major hubs through which it processes, just like any airline. That's why you get flights from Oklahoma that go through Chicago to get to California. It's totally normal and doesn't have a thing to do with the seller. What kind of scam do you think that would be? The seller has no control over the USPS. Do you think they paid extra to keep your package from you longer?

Mail is always routed through various depots. Memphis probably receives mail from the surrounding states, then forwards it on to the next depot.
