Why can't I add buddies in my contact list?

Whenever i try to add a buddy in my con tact list, it keeps on saying "Your request to add a contact has taken longer than expected to complete. The operation may have succeeded. Please check your Messenger List later". When I also delete a buddy in my list, it comes back after i re-log in. I tried reinstalling my windows many times but still no go. Please help me..

Answer:
This has to do with the server being overloaded. Don't give up. I had to add several hundred business contacts and had the same problem. Keep trying!
