I would like to create a new e-mail address.

Can I create a new email address and move my folders to it?

  • I want to change my email address and move my existing folders, contacts, etc to it. How do I do this? The email address I want to use says it is not available, but I believe it is no longer an active address. Can I get Yahoo! to release that email address for my use?

  • Answer:

Your email address can't be changed while retaining your account. This is the next best thing. You can create an alias email address that will go to the same mailbox as your primary email ID. Just go to this page. http://edit.yahoo.com/config/list_alias There is no way to move email to a new account. You can move addresses. Go to the address book and then tools > export. Yahoo will not release an email address even if not active. ʎəɿʞɹɐq  ̊ ͜͡● ̊

Gmail has function like this where you can merge addresses and when one gets an e-mail, the other does too. Most smart phones let you merge contacts and folders too. Yahoo! as far as I know, is really behind with this kind of stuff. I had an e-mail I wanted Yahoo! to release a few years ago, but I had to prove it was mine. Since then, I have not seen an option to release an old e-mail address. So, usually what happens is that the address does expire (like a domain name) after a certain period of no use and then you can jump on it. They should have a system where they inform you if that name becomes available.
