How to sync contacts with iphone and not lose any on phone or pc?

I want to sync my contacts between my iphone and yahoo contacts. When I have done it in the past anything new on my iphone is lost. I want to be sure it doesn't happen again. I had to do a restore which made me lose currently added data.
