How can I find out who owns a particular email address?

How do you find out who owns an email address?

  • My girlfriend is getting kind of abused by anonymous emails from a gmail user. I don't know if there is anyway to find out but is it possible to get the name of the email address user? please help, kind of desperate!

The only way to find out would be to contact the user directly. Unless you had some sort of police order, and could demand Google tell you. But even they don't necessarily have the correct name or information on file. You can say whatever you want when creating an account. All they'd have is the IP. Have you ever heard of blocking somebody? You can just hit "Report as Spam" or any similar option in your email client of choice. Simple solution.

You won't be able to find out the name of the person doing this. But you CAN lodge a complaint about the emails to Gmail.... Go to their website and look up what their TOS is and how they accept complaints. They most likely will require her to send the original emails with headers so that they can trace the source of the email. Then she should change her email address and be very careful who she shares it with.

You will have to report it to the email operator or even the police if its serious enough. They get the IP records etc..of the person using the email address, ask for the name and address of who was using that IP at x time

Just mark as spam and who cares we all get stupid email constantly.

sometimes it's easy! When you recieve the email, open the header and sender info, it will give you the IP address of where the mail originated from- now, it will not give you the name and personal info but you can go to google and type in the IP, and it will at least give you something to go on. The only other way to do this is to call the police (USA) and file a harrassment complaint, however, the police will only get the info with a court order, which is unlikly unless it's very serious. If you need anymore help, msg me.
