Where is the back up folder?

Whenever I download a ZIP file it doesn't appear as a zipped folder, nor does it work like one, help please?

  • I have Windows Vista on a Compaq laptop. It all started when I needed to update my Action Replay DS code modifier and I downloaded the v1.71 update. Well, my action replay was at v1.54, and those of you who are familiar with the 1.71 update problem know that it didn't up date and it said "Not a firmware file." I downloaded it, and it was a zipped folder. I wasn't sure at first what they meant (in the instructions on the Code Junkies website) by decompressing the folder, so I looked up how to do it (which was to right click on the file, then click Extract). I extracted the files which made a second folder that was not zipped. I then right clicked on the non-zipped folder after many attempts by re-downloading the file, un-compressing it, and trying to update, I decided to right click on the file and click on Open With to see if I could find the action replay code manager in the window so I clicked the internet (which is a blue "e" with a yellow ring around it). This is where the problem began. I clicked the file to open it and an internet window appeared, and then many more started to appear and I couldn't stop it. So I shut down the computer, turned it on, then deleted the file. So I re-downloaded the v1.71 file and it appeared as a piece of paper with the blue e on it. I tried to convert it back to a compressed folder by compressing it, but it made a copy still with the blue e on paper except it had .zip at the end of the name. So now whenever I try to download a zipped folder it comes with that logo and not a zipped folder. I'm now trying to download some fonts that should come in zipped folders, however I still have them appearing as the piece of paper with the e on it. I can't extract the files either, its like it isn't a zipped folder and I know it should be one. Thank you whoever read this long description and took the time to answer, and if you want to ask a question that may help with your answer then you can contact me via my profile page. Thank you once again and I look forward to your answers! :)

  • Answer:

Have you tried to right click and select "open with"? Then a menu with the option to select default program will appear. That should bring you to a window with some select programs to choose from. If your compression software isn't in the list, you may have to browse for it. Pay attention to the box checked underneath the program list. It will say "always use the selected program to open this kind of file"... make sure it is checked. This will re-enable all zipped files to open with your compression software. If you need good compression software, and your don;t have anything but windows default stuff, check out 7zip. It's completely free and offers all of the nice features that the other's provide. http://www.7-zip.org/ I hope this helps... kudos on the huge description... quite helpful.
