How do I open a pdf file in my e'mail attachment?

When downloading a pdf attachment for email then i try to open file to read, comes a inop windows mediascreen

• if i send a downloaded attached pdf, i only get the windows media screen which is blank,,will not give the pdf that i downloaded. what could possibly be my problem..I have windows xp.
