How can I send a song through email?

How can I send a song from iTunes to someone via email?

  • I have several songs saved as audio files in my iTunes player (version 8.0.2.20) on my desktop computer. But I don't know how to share them with someone via email.....can that be done? Can you explain how I can do it?

  • Answer:

I am sorry to report that this feature is not available through iTunes. There is an option to share playlists, but this is posting the playlist at iTunes Online, not emailing to another individual. Your option for sending tunes to an email recipient is to locate the folder where the song(s) reside, (the iTunes library usually holds only a placeholder which points to the actual folder the music is in, not hold your actual music unless you select the option to create a copy of all your music into the iTunes library. However, this action creates a copy of each imported song, doubling the space used to store the files) Even if you used the copy option to import a copy of all your music files into your iTunes library, this library isn't accessible as your Music folder in your Documents folder. It is only opened inside of iTunes. So, never delete your original music files if you want to minipulate them, such as sending music files in an email. Now, a quick method of sending music to an email recipient is to open the folder where they are stored, select either the individual songs, or a folder of songs, (don't create an attachment too large for you default email provider, or it won't allow it to go through, check the attachment size limitation and then make your selections based on that figure.) Also, you may want to create a folder for songs from different folders to consolidate into one attachment. You can always delete the temporary folder after you send the music. Once you have either selected individual songs, or created a temporary folder to send, you can then either simply right click and select Send To on the submenu, then select Email Recipient, which opens your default email application with a new message and attaches the files, then you just address, add any message and click Send, or, You can use a compression utility such as WinZip to first compress the music and send through the email that way. However, some email applications don't allow sending compressed files via email, so the trick is to simply alter the file extension to one which is allowed. The receiver can then change it back to .zip one his/her side of the transaction. So, you could change it to .img, or .txt, or .doc and then the receiver can simply change it back to .zip. You can easily determine if your default email application allows Zip files by attempting to send one. The reason some email applications don't allow compressed files sent through the email is due to the fact some compressed files are automatically decompressed when downloaded. These automatically decompressing files can contain malware or other destructive files such as .exe files. I hope this helps good luck and have a nice day.
