How to download a pdf from an email?

I am trying to use Gmail to download a pdf file to a word document or where i can print it out showing the full document. Its for my english class i need to attach to my essay. Every time i download it tries to open with notepad making all that gibberish come up. What do i need to download? i don't want to spend 200 dollars on a pdf reader...

the pdf reader are totally free, such as adobe reader, nitro reader, foxit reader, just get one as you wish..

right click on the file and click save then open it with either adobe reader or foxit pdf reader which is better
