How to attach digi pics THE RIGHT SIZE to emails ? please read:?
-
OK I am 57 and sending digi pic attached to emails to my 84 yr old mom, not the most puter literate ages :) anyhow, she keeps saying the pictures are too large and I know what she means but I don't know how to tell her how to open them or whatever so she gets the picture to cover the monitor only. I hope you get this. I receive them as "view" or "download", How do we properly attach them so people can see the picture without it being too big > I have Windows XP and use gmail. IF you need more info, please ask OK ? thanks, my mom would like to see the pics of her great grands :)

Answer:
Download and install the freeware IrfanView on your own computer, it has many useful features, yet is extremely easy to handle. Once it is installed, open your pic with it, go to "image" in the top bar, click "change size", enter the desired size, also change the DPI (dots per inch) settings to 72, then save your pic as .jpg or .gif. About the desired size: since you mentioned the age of your mom, I suspect that her screen resolution may be set at 600x800 which is the case for quite a few people who have bad eye sight (me too). When IrfanView asks for the desired size, just make sure that your pic will be no bigger than this. http://www.irfanview.net/ After you reduced your pics you shouldn't have any problem attaching them to your mail, as I know that Gmail allows attachments of up to 20 MB. But since all mail providers "blow up" their mails during transfer, you can actually only attach about 15 - 16 MB. Btw - I'm a grandmother of 55 and the leader of the board in my home country Germany...:-)

Hello there, If you select the pictures you want to send in Windows and then right click on them, you should see a "Send To" menu. Inside there you'll see a "Mail Recipients" option. If you choose this, it'll ask you how big/small you want the photos to be. There's a complication though: this usually only works with non-web-based email (i.e. not GMail). Perhaps Google has some software that will let this technique work with GMail? For Yahoo! Mail, there's a program called yAttach! (www.yAttach.net) that does just this. Sorry - I realise that's only half an answer. Maybe another GMailer will be able to help too. All the best, Chris
