Can you suggest an email server, other than Gmail, as an alternative to Yahoo! email?
-
By searching, I've found that many other people are also having problems with Yahoo! email. I haven't been able to download an attachment or view an embedded photo or graphic in about two months. I spent 29 minutes in an online chat with one of their techs two weeks ago. He insisted I go through that standard process of elimination routine they do (such as uninstalling all my Firefox add-ons!) only to finally say, "Our engineers are aware this is problem and they are working on it." He voiced his hope it would be corrected soon. Well, it's not and I'm ready to move on. I have this problem on my XP whether I'm using Internet Explorer, Firefox, and even Safari. If I forward a Yahoo! email with an attachment to my Gmail account, however, I can download. My husband also has a Yahoo! account but he has no problem at all on his XP but when he's using mine, he has the same problem I do. So what does that tell me? That the problem is only with certain IP addresses? What's up with that? Do you have a suggestion for another email service that has unlimited or at least a generous amount of online storage? Gmail's storage is limited to 7271MB. I can exceed that in no time at all. (The keywords here are ONLINE STORAGE.) If you took the time to read this far, thank you. I'll appreciate your suggestions. btw: it doesn't matter if I'm using Classic or New Mail.

Answer:
I use AOL's free e-mail service. It has unlimited online storage (a good thing since I keep an amazing number of items) and good security. It has a decent spam filter, but doesn't automatically delete spam; it puts it into a folder so you can decide whether or not it truly is spam. I haven't had any problems downloading files or sending them (I think there is somewhere around a 16MB limit per e-mail when sending an attachment). Some problems I've had: I can see embedded pictures, but can't send them (they say they are working on that) and there aren't many bells and whistles (for example, there are only a few fonts available to use...though you can see others as long as you have that font on your computer). This site http://email.about.com/od/freeemailreviews/tp/free_email.htm goes through some of the pros and cons of 17 different free e-mail services. You may want to check it out. You can access any of them through that site, including AOL. This site https://new.aol.com/freeaolweb/ allows you to sign up for the free AOL. I hope you find the perfect one for you!

I've been having that problem with Yahoo email as well. So far right-clicking the link and selecting "open in a new window" has worked for me. As far as other email providers, msn.com works okay for me.

You should see if you can get an alumni account from your uni. I use that, and I just started paying for an email! (Yeah, I got that fricken' fed up with all these "free email" servers, I've had various problems with the top 3, and after my issue with Yahoo I don't trust them for anything serious, especially not my writing!) The other really big "Free" one is hotmail. It's done through Microsoft and people generally like it. I had, easily, my worst problem with Spam when I used Hotmail, but that's been about two years ago. I've included a list of the "Top 17 Free Email Services" in my sources. There's something called mail.com through ask.com. It doesn't look too bad, but I can't vouch for it. If you're willing to pay I will vouch for me.com through Apple. There are so many helpful features, it's pretty amazing. Good luck.
