How can a dating website set up an account with your email without your permission?

  • Fling.com set up an account using my email address and it is set up with a password and everything! I am a 37 year old woman (engaged to be married), that lives in Dallas, and when I clicked the picture on the email, the site opened up as if I have been logged in and the profile says I am a man seeking women, that I was born in 1989 and live in Arkansas. This has really upset my fiance and he thinks I have been surfing porn. I do not search porn. I signed up on plentyoffish.com (for one day, it scared the hell out of me!) and deleted it back in April (before we were together). Can anyone please answer this question? This has ruined my life! i just am confused as to how they can create a profile with my email without my permission. Thanks in advance.

    You must be careful on what website you leave information. There are thousands, even millions of hackers browsing by the minute just to grab someone's email to sell it to the highest bidder which may very well include this dating site. Do not surf at will, ensure that you visit only reputable sites from now on and tell your fiancee that what happened to you is a common occurrence once anyone chooses to visit the information super highway. In any case you must change your password because it seems like it is compromised. Do not use the same password for every site either and NEVER NEVER use birthdays and children's names or anything so personal for your password. Chances are you may have already given out those information over the Internet making it even easier to guess your password. When making your new password include uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols but write it down somewhere very safe until you are used to using it.

Someone has done this without your knowledge - an ex-boyfriend, a former friend, a former co-worker, some teenager playing a prank, etc. But someone who knew your email address created that account. The site must have Customer Service info -- contact them and tell them there is a profile set in your identity without your permisson and you want it taken down ASAP. Also make sure your email address is removed from their mailing list
